The Guyana National U14 Boys football programme yesterday suffered their second consecutive defeat of their three-match tour of Suriname, losing to the Transvaal U16 setup.
The Guyanese went down by 0-4 score-line. Guyana was defeated by Voorwarts U16 outfit 0-2 in their first match. They will now conclude their campaign against Inter-Wanica at 17.30 hours today.
Devnon Winter, Head-coach of the team, during a post-match comment stated that the tour is a being utilized to develop and assess the quality of the players, adding that the result is not of utmost importance, but the manner in which the team performs in different phases and areas of the field is much more significant.
He explained, “In developmental games you want to play everybody. Concacaf has a rule that every player must play 90 minutes in tournaments and because it’s a friendly series we tried to apply the rule to get everyone on the field.
I don’t know what the other side was doing, but one of our philosophies is to give all the boys a feel of the game.”
Winter further stated that while the second match was tougher due to the physical size of the opposing team, his charges displayed character throughout the contest.
The U14 squad comprises: Kemron Pellew, Caio Paul, Joseph Eusebio, De Angelo Dick, Machaia Defreitas, Mikkel Mills, La Andre Garnett, Ezekiel Baldeo, Michael Joseph, Jason Felix, Delyman Hendricks, Luke Lavigne, Keshon Leacock, Jemeal Garnett, Nicholas Tixey, Shaquan David, Isaiah Ifill, Jaden Harris, Levi Sampson, and Malcolm Hendricks.
