Quincy Roache was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of his common-law wife, Tacina Dazzell.
The 36-year-old Roache, a businessman and proprietor of the Go Local Guy-ana Inc of La Bonne Inten-tion, East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared before Magistrate Roshelle Liver-pool at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
The charge against the man stated that on August 26 at Ujama Housing Scheme, La Bonne Inten-tion, ECD, while being armed with a knife, he murdered 28-year-old Tacina Dazzell.
Roache was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison. The matter has been adjourned to October 14th, 2022.
According to the facts presented by the prosecutor, Dazzell and the accused had shared a common-law relationship for approximately two years during which they would often experience domestic problems.
On the day in question, at about 23.35 hours, the dead woman’s cousin, Nedawn Schultz, who is also the couple’s neighbour, was awakened by Dazzell’s screams. She immediately opened her door and upon doing so, she saw Dazzell running out of her yard and unto her (Schultz) bridge where she subsequently fell and lay motionless.
It was said that Roache then exited the house, entered his minibus, and drove away.
The police were summoned and attended the scene shortly after. The woman’s body was then examined and thirteen stab wounds were seen. She was transported to the Georgetown Public Hos-pital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The court further heard that the suspect later went to the Turkeyen Police Station where he stated that he had just killed his fiancé. He was subsequently taken to the Sparendaam Police Station where he was informed of the allegation and cautioned. Roache then admitted to committing the act and the admission was videotaped.
The father of the deceased woman, Owen Dazzell, had previously told Stabroek News that the autopsy which was performed on his daughter on Monday had revealed that she was stabbed 16 times.
He had told this newspaper that he last saw his daughter on Friday night at a church fair which she attended with her son and her cousin.
“My daughter would have entered her yard before her cousin…when she got in, the cousin gone in and lock up and maybe just like couple of minutes after the neighbour next door heard the hollering and when she look out, she saw my daughter running out of the yard. She was running to the cousin that she went with but when she meet to the cousin gate, the gate was locked so she could not have gone further. She run and hold on to the gate and she collapsed.”
The senior Dazzell noted that about a year ago, the accused had allegedly abused his daughter, during that time he had moved out. However, Roache had managed to return into Dazzell’s life.
Meanwhile, the mother of the dead woman, Alison Dazzell, had also said that her daughter had confided in her that the relationship was not “bearing any fruit” and that she wanted to end it. “I said everybody make mistake at times and you are young and could still get out.”
Dazzell who had made the decision to end the relationship was in the process of searching for a place to stay.
