The skeletal remains discovered along the Eversham, Corentyne foreshore on Saturday morning have since been identified to be those of a missing Surinamese fisherman.
The relatives of Wazir Shaw, 45, a fisherman who has been missing since August 9, from Nickerie, Suriname, ventured over to Guyana on Tuesday where the identification was done. He was subsequently buried here.
Stabroek News was told that Shaw was identified through the steel plates in his leg which were inserted following an accident some time ago. Further, relatives identified the track pants found on the remains to be that which Shaw was wearing when he left home.
A farmer, who was on the foreshore at Eversham Village, Corentyne around 08:00 hrs on Saturday noticed some crows circling an area. He then decided to go closer to the area where the badly decomposed remains, clad in what appeared to be a torn tracksuit, were found.
After news broke of the discovery, Shaw’s relatives who were searching for him immediately reached out to investigators in Region Six.
