Dear Editor,
I would like to follow up with a letter that was published on Tuesday 29th August, regarding squatting in Good Hope, Phase Three ECD. It is criminal what is taking place in this community, especially in Phase Three. The PPP Government is solely responsible for this travesty that is taking place in this community. In 2015 when they lost their seat of power, they encouraged their supporters to illegally occupy lands as a form of frustration to the incoming government, and this community was not spared. People sold their homes and took up all empty spaces, even reserved lands.
Editor, I was given a lot which I paid in full, got a mortgage approved by the bank, and cannot build because it is currently occupied by a squatter, and he is refusing to move, while building zinc shacks and rearing pigs on my land. Everyone around my land is complaining to me about the foul smell of these pigs. I visited the ministry and was told to write a letter to the CEO; I wrote several letters to the former and current CEO of the Ministry of Housing and Water. To this day I have not had any response from the ministry.
Imagine hardworking taxpayers are being burdened with this unnecessary travesty of watching squatters being rewarded and even compensated, while legitimate landowners are left in the wilderness and the government turns a blind eye. Editor, I now understand why my parents always told me to get out of this country, oil or no oil. The powers that be will always condone lawlessness.
Sincerely,
(Name and Address Provided)
