A La Parfaite Harmonie man will now spend the next six months behind bars after admitting to wounding another man during a row over $400.
Fifty-year-old Naresh Bahadeo, a security guard, who appeared via zoom from the Brickdam Police Station was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on Rajpaul Motilall on August 2 at Railway Line, Kitty, Georgetown.
Bahadeo appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
According to the prosecutor, Motilall’s medical report indicated that he suffered multiple lacerations about two inches long to his right hand and head, and four inches to his right leg.
It was further stated that the virtual complainant and the defendant are known to each other, and on the day in question, at about 13.00 hours, the defendant was cleaning the trench opposite the house where he stayed with Motilall.
Motilall then came out of the house and started quarrelling with the man over $400. During the argument, Bahadeo used the cutlass that he was cleaning the trench with, and dealt Motilall several chops about his body.
Motilall was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and subsequently admitted for treatment. He was later discharged and Bahadeo was apprehended, told of the offence, cautioned, and arrested.
Bahadeo told the court that he would usually go and stay at Motilall’s place at Lot 4 Railway Line, Kitty, since he lives on the West Bank and could not afford to travel every day for work.
