After a four-month hiatus the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) is ready to bring cricket back to the capital with a spanking new tournament beginning this weekend.
The GCA/Atlantic Marine Supplies Inc., Suzuki Motor Cycle second-division T20 tournament will be divided across two zones.
Zone A will feature GNIC, Everest, Demerara Cricket Club, 3rd Class, Malteenoes Sports Club, Georgetown Cricket Club, Muslim Youth Organization, Diplomats and 4R Lions.
Zone B will comprise Police SC, Queen’s College, Guyana Defence Force, Transport Sports Club, Ace Warriors, Sophia Sports Club, Bel Air Rubis II and Agricola.
Tomorrow, Diplomats will battle Everest at the GCC ground, Bourda, from 09.30 hours while GCC and DCC will lock horns at the same venue from 13.30 hours. Over at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground, the hosts will face 3rd Class from 13.30 hours. Two matches will be played at the Queen’s College ground with the hosts going up against Transport from 09.30 hours followed by the clash between Bel Air Rubis and Ace Warriors at 13.30 hours.
Sunday will see action at the DCC ground Queenstown where Ace Warriors and Agricola will battle from 09.30 hours followed by DCC versus 3rd Class from 13.30 hours.
GCC will also host a double header with Transport Sports Club and Sophia clashing from 09.30 hours followed by a heavyweight clash between GCC and Everest from 13.30 hours.
Hosts, Queen’s College will battle Bel Air Rubis from 13.30 hours while Malteenoes will host Diplomats at the same time.
Competitions Chairman, Shaun Massiah said that he welcomes the return of cricket in the city, noting that April 30, was the last time the GCA staged matches owing to the heavy rainfall over the last few months.
