The Junior Jaguars rebounded from their opening loss in the Concacaf U17 Qualifying Championship to Bonaire [2-4], by schooling The Bahamas 4-0 yesterday at the IMG Facility in Bradenton, Florida, USA.
Guyana’s starting XI for the match comprised: Duqain Samuels, Shakeel Welcome, Swade Edwards, Gerry Burnette, Seon Cato, Kvist Paul, Krishtian Louis, Noah Kissoon, Matrim Martin, Christopher Witter and Bryan Wharton.
An own goal in the fourth minute gave Guyana the perfect start before Bryan Wharton made his presence felt with a ninth minute conversion to push the score to 2-0. Witter then got into the scoring act in the 19th minute to further increase the advantage.
The lopsided result was concretised in the 29th minute when Wharton completed his brace. In the other results from the group, Bonaire edged The British Virgin Islands 2-1 while Bermuda mauled Saint Martin 9-0.
Guyana will now oppose Saint Martin tomorrow from 9:00am and The British Virgin Islands on Monday at 9am before concluding their campaign against Bermuda on Wednesday at 11:00am.
Group-B comprises Anguilla, Aruba, Martinique, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, while Group-C contains the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Dominican Republic and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Group-D features Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Nicaragua, and Turks and Caicos Islands.
The respective group winners will progress to the 2023 CONCACAF U17 Men’s Championship in Guatemala.
