Best offence vs best defence as Slingerz takes on Sparta Boss

All roads will lead to the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue this evening when the newcomer Slingerz faces off with national heavyweight Sparta Boss in the final of the ‘Keep Ya Five Alive’ Futsal Championship.

The contest will pit the highest scoring offence in newcomer Slingerz against the best defence in the tournament in the form of Sparta Boss.

Slingerz path to the tournament witnessed victories against Beterverwagting, Family, Avocado Ballers, and Stabroek Ballers. This equated to an impressive 23 conversions at a rate of 5.75 goals per match.

However, if there is any weakness in the armour of the West Demerara giant it would be their defensive quality as they have allowed in 10 goals at an average of 2.5 goals per fixture. Interestingly, the Vergenoegen-based outfit is yet to secure a clean sheet in the tournament as they have conceded in every match.

Sparta Boss, on the other hand, has dismissed East Front Road, Pike Street Sophia, Swag Entertainment and Sophia to seal their berth in the championship fixture. Defensively, the Sparta outfit has been imperious, as they have only allowed one goal during this period while securing three clean sheets.

On the attacking end, they have recorded 14 conversions at a rate of 3.5 goals per match, which illustrates the balance the team possess on both ends of the playing area.

In the earlier third-place playoff, Stabroek Ballers will oppose Swag Entertainment. The eventual champion will pocket $800,000, and a trophy, with the second, third, and fourth place finisher receiving $400,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively, and the corresponding accolades.

The sponsors of the tournament include the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, GT Beer, Mohamed Enterprise, 94.1 Boom FM, Fireside Grill, Star Rental, Outside Bar, Aronco Services Inc., VP Sports, Prestige Distribution Services, Colours Boutique, La Rose Boutique, Kevin’s Reflections, News Source (Gordon Moseley Role Model award for the most disciplined player in the tournament), and the Guyana Football Federation.
