The burnt remains discovered at Yarrowkabra by the police on Sunday are believed be those of Marc Melville who went missing two Mondays ago and there was evidence of chop wounds.
Stabroek News was told that there appeared to be chop wounds to the skull and other body parts and the body was then stuffed into a suitcase and burnt. DNA testing may now have to be pursued to confirm that the remains are Melville’s.
This newspaper was reliably informed that keys that were found at the grisly scene matched the locks at the dead man’s house.
Police yesterday conducted an investigation at Melville’s home and the keys that were found at the scene opened doors at his house. Relatives told Stabroek News that Melville would usually carry a knife in his bag and that the screwdrivers that were found at Yarrowkabra are the same ones he would usually use to make extension cords.
Following reports, a search was conducted by police ranks at Snake Farm, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway on Sunday, where the burnt remains were found along the trail. The remains were found north of the entrance leading to the Circuit Area, Timehri, in some bushes.
In addition, a number of items including a pair of Air Jordan sneakers, a Seiko watch, a knife blade, two screw drivers, one USB charger cable, and a bunch of keys were found. Further searches were conducted in the area the following day and bone fragments along with two Barbadian one-dollar coins, a piece of a leather belt, and a part of blue denim jeans, were discovered.
Stabroek News spoke with Amanda Henry, Melville’s sister, and she said that he went missing two Mondays back. Melville was a 47-year-old father of two and resided at La Parfaite Harmonie.
Melville currently has a case in court pertaining to his assets.
