Guyana’s Golden Jaguars U17 men’s football team its campaign in the Concacaf U17 championship qualifiers on a positive note, defeating group winner Bermuda 3-2 yesterday at the IMG Facility in Bradenton, Florida, USA.
Guyana’s starting XI comprised: Duqain Samuels, Shakeel Welcome, Swade Edwards, Gerry Burnette, Seon Cato, Jaden Bascom, Christopher Witter, Kvist Paul, Matrim Martin, Shemaiah Samuels, and Krishtian Louis.
Christopher Witter led the Guyanese with a double in the 33rd and 69th minute respectively after Shemaiah Samuels had opened the scoring in the 24th minute. Guyana ended their campaign on nine points with a record of three wins [3-1 Saint Martin, 4-0 Bahamas], one loss [2-4 Bonaire] and a draw [1-1 British Virgin Islands].
In the other results from the section, the British Virgin Islands defeated Saint Martin 2-1.
Group-B comprises Anguilla, Aruba, Martinique, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, while Group-C contains the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Dominican Republic, and Saint Kitts, and Nevis. Group-D features Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Nicaragua, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The respective winners from the aforementioned groups will progress to the 2023 CONCACAF U17 Men’s Championship in Guatemala.
