A Springlands, Corentyne teenager died yesterday from injuries he sustained after a tire exploded in his face while he was pumping it up with a compressor.
Dead is Urick Glen Henry, 17, a labourer. The incident reportedly occurred about 1.30 pm at Evelyn Landing, Corentyne River.
Stabroek News was told that Henry, his father and two others employed by a Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne businessman, who owns a sawmill, were working at the location at the time of the incident.
According to the workers, Henry was pumping up a skidder tire with an air compressor when it suddenly exploded pitching Henry into the air. He landed about fifteen feet away.
Henry was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An investigation has since been launched into the matter.
