Charlestown Secondary creates ExxonMobil history

History was created last evening as Charlestown Secondary became the first school to secure the boy and girl’s ExxonMobil football championships at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

In the boy’s division, Charlestown edged Ann’s Grove 3-2 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1. Prior to the penalty shootout, Malcolm Hendricks propelled Charlestown into the lead in the 19th minute, only for Tiquan Frank to equalize in the 26th minute.

Due to the outcome Charlestown walked away with $300,000 towards a school project, medals and the championship trophy, whilst the runners-up copped the corresponding accolade, and $150,000 towards a school initiative.

Charlestown Secondary also copped the Most Disciplined Team title. In the third place playoff, former champions Cummings Lodge dismissed West Ruimveldt 4-2. With the result, Cummings Lodge received $75,000 for a school project, and a trophy, while West Ruimveldt pocketed $40,000 for a project and a trophy.

On the individual side of the presentation, Hendricks walked away with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy, while teammate Deangelo Dick received the Best Goalkeeper title. On the other hand, Jason Sandiford of Dolphin Secondary copped the Highest Goal Scorer accolade with 13 conversions.

In the girl’s section, Charlestown bested defending champion East Ruimveldt 2-1. Hadassah Smith, and Chelsyi Lupe scored in the fifth and 39th minute apiece. On target in the loss was Azaria Wilson in the 45th minute.

Charlestown for their effort, collected $300,000 towards a school project, medals and the championship trophy. On the other hand, East Ruimveldt received the second place trophy, and $150,000 towards a school initiative.

In the third place playoff, New Campbellville downed New Central 3-0 on penalty kicks, after regulation time ended scoreless. Due to the result, New Campbellville collected $75,000 towards a school project, and a trophy, while West Ruimveldt received $40,000 for a project and a trophy. Meanwhile, New Central was adjudged the Most Disciplined team.

On the individual side, Wilson of East Ruimveldt received the Highest Goal Scorer trophy, while Sady Cameron of Charlestown copped the Best Goalkeeper title.
