The Chinese Embassy in Guyana on September 2nd mourned the passing of former Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashleigh Jackson and expressed condolences to his family.
On its Facebook page, the Embassy noted that in 1971, he served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative for Guyana to the United Nations and cast Guyana’s vote in favour of UNGA Resolution 2758 restoring the lawful rights of the People’s Republic of China at the United Nations.
During his tenure as Foreign Minister, the embassy said that he visited China and made important contributions to the development of China-Guyana relations.
Jackson passed away on September 1st at the age of 93.
