The police are now on the hunt for an injured man who shot at them on Monday and managed to escape after a hostile group in Albouystown started to attack the law enforcers.
According to the police, ranks were on Sussex and Cooper streets in search of a person who was suspected to be involved in the GTT Giftland Mall robbery when they received information of an alleged shooting incident.
As the ranks were on foot heading south on Cooper Street, they observed three males matching the description of the shooting suspects walking towards them.
Upon seeing the ranks, the police said that one of the suspects pulled out a black metal object and discharged a round in their direction.
As a result, the police ranks immediately took cover and returned fire, hitting the suspect in his left thigh. After the suspect fell on the ground, the ranks managed to retrieve the pistol with contained two rounds.
However, as they attempted to escort the injured suspect to seek medical attention, several persons in the neighbourhood started to surround the ranks, acting in a hostile manner while also pelting them with bricks and bottles.
As the ranks were being attacked, the suspect managed to escape.
It was later found out that that the injured suspect visited the Georgetown Public Hospital but left before being treated.
The Police said that investigations are ongoing.
