Intertec, a 100%-owned Guyanese company that specialises in providing a wide variety of offshore solutions to meet challenges of the oil and gas sector, was launched yesterday morning at the Marriott Hotel.
The company was established in 2020 but boasts over 30 years of experience in the operation of offshore marine support vessels and offshore supply services, according to Hannah Vogel-London, one of Intertec’s directors and the only non-Guyanese staff member at the Company.
“We have come home to offer services that we think are not currently provided by Guyanese companies and at the level we operate,” said Vogel-London, who is married to the Guyanese owner of Intertec. In its brochure, Intertec said it aims to offer gold standard service to its clients in and around Guyanese waters.
“We will be offering a global fleet to Guyana’s oil and gas sector, top quality vessels and first class,” she said.
Vogel-London noted that while they are aware there are a few companies in Guyana providing services in the sector, there is opportunity for competition, hence improving on the level of services they provide is inevitable. However, given their experience in the sector, she said, the company is bringing vast experience and knowledge that will be to the benefit of locals as staff and crew members will be exclusively Guyanese.
As the company expands, so will its staff, says Vogel-London. Next year, the company will be implementing a maritime training programme that will see participation of 95% of its Guyanese employees.
“It is our mission to be as inclusive as possible and to retain 95% of Guyanese employees and we hope that this will create a basis for a more equal social contract in Guyana, allowing locals to participate in the petroleum supply chain,” said Vogel-London.
Presently, the company has several partnerships with major vessels owners. Once a vessel is imported to Guyana, Intertec will be in charge of providing crew members.
Intertec will be providing a full spectrum of offshore support craft, ranging from crew boats to the latest subsea intervention vessels, and accommodation units that can serve as housing for workers on an offshore oil rig but can be transformed into a floatel, if needed. A floatel is a floating hotel.
For the beginning of its operation, Intertec will provide and operate third-party owned tonnage, but will be working to build its own fleet of Guyanese-owned vessels. In addition to supplying multi-purpose vessels, the company’s Offshore Marine Agency and Logistics Services will aid clients in handling shipments, fulfilling requirements for the delivery and reception of goods such as customs clearance and dispatching shipments to vessels operating offshore Guyana; brokerage, transportation and trucking services. It will also be offering waste and sewage disposal services, bunker and fresh water supply, and vessel permits, among several others services that will ensure that all logistics tasks are completed within given deadlines and as per the laws of Guyana.
Additionally, Intertec will provide secure warehousing in proximity to the Guyana Shore Base and the team will manage container loading, off-loading and storage.
For the company’s Supply Base Management aspect, Intertec will source and procure the best quality of food available on the market. “We ensure smooth and timely delivery to the offshore platform or supply vessels in containers which are specially designed to keep the food fresh during its transit,” said, Intertec, which added that it can also provide equipment and other materials to keep and store client’s supplied items.
