On Tuesday, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers conducted an operation at Cambridge Mahaica, East Coast Demerara during which they intercepted 206 lbs of marijuana and held a man after a car chase.
A CANU release said that the officers attempted to stop a silver/grey motor vehicle with the license plate # PAB 2143, which was proceeding east along the Mahaica public road. The driver refused to stop, prompting the officers to pursue the vehicle.

The driver and another occupant then attempted to flee. The driver was apprehended, but the other occupant managed to escape in the nearby bushes.
A subsequent search of the motor vehicle, revealed seven salt bags containing several parcels, suspected to be cannabis.
