A 23-year-old welder was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with armed robbery.
Isaiah Daniels, of Lot 485 ‘A’ Field, Sophia, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he denied the charge that was brought against him.
It is alleged that Daniels, on July 31, at A-Wen-9 supermarket on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, while in the company of another, and while armed with a gun, robbed Christopher Hintzel of one 12-gauge shotgun with six live rounds of matching ammunition, all valued at $225,000, being the property of Bhojeshwarie Mohan.
The prosecutor objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence and the fact that Daniels was facing other pending matters at the Sparendaam Magistrates Court.
As such, bail was denied and Daniels was remanded to prison. The matter was then adjourned until October 5th for statements.
The court heard that on the day in question, the victim, Hintzel, who is employed as a security guard, was on duty at the aforementioned supermarket when at about 10:30hrs, he was approached by the defendant and another male who were both wearing face masks.
According to the police, the defendant then pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim, whilst instructing him not to move. The other suspect then proceeded to take the firearm away from Hintzel and the duo made good their escape on Aubrey Barker Road on separate motorcycles.
