I have never driven anywhere as dangerous as in Georgetown

Dear Editor,

On this trip to my mother’s land I have noticed a very, very disturbing phenomena. The roads especially in Georgetown make the Wild West look like a tea party. Traffic volume is crazy, driver behaviour simply defies belief. I have never driven anywhere as dangerous. A simple five point plan to get some order out of chaos

a. Fix ALL the traffic lights now.

b. Put traffic policemen on the roads on foot especially at rush hour hot spots.

c. Start fining those who break the law. Not on the spot-too open to corruption-but through the courts. Multiple offences and you get banned for a period.

d. Start a massive education/re-education programme for all drivers on radio, TV however. Simply put ‘Dangerous driving kills and maims for life’. Offer short in person re-education course instead of points on the licence for offences. I have done two for speeding

e. Finally think of a congestion/access charge for the big cities. It works in London.

Something has to be done before the corpses mount on the roadside. We owe it to our children.

Sincerely,

John ‘Bill Cotton/Reform’ Mair
