A mother of three was granted her release on $150,000 bail on Friday after being faced with an attempted murder charge.
It is alleged that 34-year-old Sabrina Bethune on September 12th at Evans Street, Charlestown, inflicted grievous bodily harm on her roommate, Linden Davidson, with intent to commit murder.
Bethune, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown court was not required to plead to the charge.
According to the police’s case against her, which was read in court, Bethune armed herself with a piece of wood and dealt the man a blow to his hand while he was standing on Evans Street.
The Police Prosecutor said Davidson then reported the matter to the police and as he returned home, Bethune additionally armed herself with a glass bottle, walked up behind the man, and dealt him another blow to his head with the bottle.
The court heard that the bottle broke, which led to Bethune using it to inflict a stab wound to the man’s neck.
As a result, Davidson was immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens and he was admitted as a patient for three days.
Davidson told the court that due to the injuries he sustained, he has a hearing disability in his left ear and has a damaged vocal cord.
Meanwhile, Bethune’s attorney, Ronald Daniels, who quickly stood to make a bail application for his client, informed the court that the roommates were involved in an argument over a stolen gold chain and a scuffle eventually ensued, which resulted in Davidson falling to the ground and injuring himself on some broken glass bottles.
Daniels while arguing for his client’s pre-trial freedom, added that Bethune is still recovering from the loss of her fourth child and as a result her “state of mind” was affected.
In his application, Daniels also asked the Magistrate to take into consideration that both parties reside at the same address and that further issues can develop if they are to continue living together.
Due to the submissions presented by the attorney, Chief Magistrate McLennan set bail at $150,000 for Bethune. However, she also ordered the woman to remove from the residence and to stay 50 feet away from Davidson.
The matter was then adjourned until September 22.
