Several fire hydrants around Georgetown were on Tuesday inspected by Chief Fire Officer Gregory Wickham and a team of officers of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS.)
The GFS said in a press release that during the inspection firefighters cleaned the area around the hydrants after which they were turned on and the water pressure was tested. Once it was determined that the hydrants were fully functional they were painted bright red so as to be more noticeable to citizens and firefighters in the event of a fire.
The release further stated that the GFS will continue to install and repair fire hydrants across the country in efforts to better serve citizens and fulfill their mandate.
Citizens are asked to avoid blocking fire hydrants and to report any act of vandalism to the police or nearest fire station.
