The lifeless body of a four-year-old was pulled from a trench on Saturday night after he went missing for some time on Saturday afternoon.

The now deceased child has been identified as Shane Samuels of Two Friends Village, East Coast Demerara.

Police investigations revealed Samuels was left in the care of his aunt and was last seen playing in the yard. His mother, Donell Adams, a vendor, had left for work.

The mother during the course of the day called her sister Suelle to check up on him. In the first instance, she was told he was playing in the yard. However, when she called a second time she was informed Samuels was missing.

Sometime after, police said the mother received a call from a friend who informed her that they found his bicycle close to a trench.

At the time of the discovery, Samuels’ body was pulled from the trench by an uncle. When his mother arrived at the scene, she observed her son’s lifeless body on the ground next to Two Friends trench.

No marks of violence were observed the body and it is currently at the Jerrick’s Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
