Reported stalled school project is an abuse of the public purse

Dear Editor,

I refer to your article yesterday September 18th, “Work stalled for over a month on Bamia School, Regional Chair says”. The article goes on to say, ‘construction on the school has been stalled for over six weeks, and workers were not remunerated the promised amounts’. SN reached out to one of the principals of the company, who astonishingly said, “they are unaware of works being stalled and he would have to make some calls!” To whom may I ask? Saying now that I predicted all of this gives me no comfort. Not only shameful and disgraceful, but an abuse of the public purse. Why can’t bona fide Guyanese manufacturers be given a fair chance irrespective of their race, religion or perceived political affiliations?

Sincerely,
