A young miner died last Saturday after being pinned by a tree that fell at Gold Finger Landing, in Region Seven.
Dead is Troy Prudencio, 24, of Lethem, in Region Nine.
According to a Guyana Police Force report, Prudencio and two co-workers were in a camp cooking on Saturday just prior to the fatal event. At about 13:22 hours, there were several gusts of heavy wind and subsequently they heard the sound of a tree falling.
Police said Prudencio and his co-workers scampered to get out of the camp for safety but he did not make it and was pinned by the tree.
The two co-workers immediately removed the tree that pinned Prudencio, who was motionless. They then took him to the Aurora Gold Mine where he was pronounced dead on arrival at about 15:22 hours by a doctor. His body was examined and it was observed that Prudencio had multiple injuries about his body.
