As it forges ahead with its plan for the reconstruction of the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, the Ministry of Public Works is inviting contractors to participate in its prequalification process.
In an advertisement in the September 18, 2022 Sunday Stabroek, the ministry informed that prequalification criteria will be published by September 21 with prequalified contractors being invited to bid by December 2022.
The scope of work entails milling of existing asphalt surface course, application of varying pavement structures above the milled sections of pavement inclusive of asphalt, sand asphalt and sub-base; full-depth pavement reconstruction in certain sections, construction of two roundabouts along the alignment, sidewalks extension to 9 multi-span bridges, drainage work and utility relocation, and installation of roadway lighting.
According to the tender invitation, the requirements for prequalification will include an average annual turnover over the last five years of US$60 million, demonstrable cash flow, inclusive of access to credit of US$15 million per month and experience as a prime contractor in the construction of at least two assignments of a nature and complexity comparable to the proposed project activity within the last 10 years. Each project must be valued at least US$120 million to comply with the requirement work. The ministry explained that to comply with the final requirement, works quoted should be at least 80 per cent completed.

The resurfacing of the road is being executed by government of Guyana under a loan agreement from the Islamic Development Bank.
At mid-year, a team from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) visited Guyana on an appraisal mission for a US$120 million loan request.
The objective of the talks, Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh had explained, was to conclude negotiations on access to the loan, which will pave the way for the resurfacing and upgrading of the major thoroughfare.
The Linden to Soesdyke Highway functions as a connector between Region Four and communities in regions Seven, Eight, Nine, and Ten.
The IsDB team met with a high-level ministerial team led by Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill and engaged in discussions to propel the government infrastructure development plan. They were led by Atiq Ahmad, Lead Global Transport Specialist-Economic and Social Infrastructure Department, General Directorate for Global Practices and Partnerships of the IsDB.
In his brief remarks during his meeting with the delegation, Minister Edghill reiterated the importance of the Linden Soesdyke Highway Project, noting that it will benefit all communities and regions.
Singh, during the contract signing and sod turning for the construction of the East Coast-East Bank Demerara road bypass told the gathering that once all goes well, the country will witness the signing of another major infrastructural project that will benefit thousands of Guyanese.
