Dear Editor,
My love for Literature was enhanced when in the mid- seventies I began to study, via a Wolsey Hall Correspondence Course, for the London University “A” Level GCE English Literature Examination. It was through this period of study that I learnt to appreciate a poem. I have in my possession, published about twenty years ago, an anthology of poems, among others, titled “Poems of New York,” edited by Elizabeth Schmidt. What an experience to taste and re-taste the poems of great poets such as Walt Whitman, E.E. Cummings, W.H. Auden and Dereck Walcott among others. Had I not studied Literature for “A” level, I would have missed the sweetness of reading quality poetry and enjoying. I have a dream that every child in Guyana will have an interest in Literature and does not lose a valuable life experience.
Sincerely,
Krishna Nand Prasad
