Yesterday at the Marriott Hotel, ExxonMobil ushered in the sixth consecutive season as the main sponsors of the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

The day featured a host of activities by the parties which started with the mingling of players and ExxonMobil executives including President of ExxonMobil Guyana, Alistair Routledge. Routledge said, “I am really looking forward to the matches that are going to be on show in the next 10 days to fill the atmosphere. It is something we lacked over the last couple years and this I’m sure is going to be an outpour in energy as everyone gets back in the stadium and gets to celebrate some games and I’m sure the warriors have been saving their best for the home games, so we look forward to lots of wins.” According to Routledge, the company is making an impact in the community through sport.

“We also see ourselves making an impact in the community and part of that is through sport. We know how important cricket is to the nation, in fact, the Caribbean, and many other nations around the world so we want to celebrate through the sport, through the players, through the nation.”

A representative from the Warriors said, “The Amazon Warriors chairman, management and team would like to first and foremost thank ExxonMobil for their continued support towards the franchise.”

He noted that the sixth consecutive year of sponsorship just underscores the strong bond between the two entities with a common goal, to see Guyana succeed.

The representative highlighted that this partnership was key in seeing Guyana Amazon Warriors being one of three teams in the inaugural Women’s CPL.

Meanwhile, Routledge was presented with a signed playing shirt by captain, Shimron Hetmyer. After that, over 130 children from across three Regions got the chance to ask the players questions and interact with them on a one-on-one level before battling in a three-over contest. After the event, GAW opening batsman Paul Stirling, said he enjoyed playing with the children and sharing in a few hearty laughs.

Colin Ingram said that he was also impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the children.
