Keavon Bess, Guyana’s Chef-de-Mission to the South American Games says the travelling contingent remains unchanged and to his knowledge Guyana will be represented in the four previously published disciplines by 16 athletes.
Bess told this publication yesterday that swimming may be a late entry to the October 1-15 Games in Paraguay but nothing was mentioned of track and field.
“At this point, the participation of a local track and field outfit at the Games seems unlikely,” said Bess.
The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) was flogged by the media for their huge false start, failing to submit its list to the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) in April in order for their athletes to compete at the quadrennial event. That was done a week ago, leaving their presence at the games in jeopardy.
Bess also disclosed that he is scheduled to depart next Tuesday ahead of the all important Delegation Registration Meeting (DRM) and added that a press briefing is scheduled for tomorrow at Olympic House to discuss matters pertaining to Team Guyana’s participation at the games.
Bess, who also served as Chef-de-Mission at the last games in 2018 in Bolivia, identified squash, table tennis, boxing and badminton as the four disciplines which Guyana will compete for medals in.
