The maiden edition of the Joshua Denny Memorial U20 Football Championship will occur today at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown.
This was confirmed by an official release from Afreya Denny, mother of the late Festival City footballer. According to the release, the tournament will feature four teams competing in an elimination format.
Camptown FC will face off with Santos FC in the opening match at 18:00hrs, while Fruta Conquerors will oppose Georgetown Football Club (GFC) at 20:30hrs. The respective victors will advance to the final on September 30, with the losers contesting the third place playoff.
“Denny, who represented the Lodge School team at the Milo and KFC tournament, and also Camptown FC from U-11 to the senior ranks, was robbed and brutally murdered on the 30th of September 2021 whilst on his way to work. It is against this back drop myself and family wish to host this tournament to sensitize the public and moreso the youths, about working to achieve their goals instead of crime,” the release stated.
