From the much anticipated food festival on Main Street to a chic Soca and Wine concept party in the Marriott parking lot, Cricket Carnival events go into full gear this weekend.
The weekend events kicked off yesterday with the three-day food festival and a duck curry competition showcasing Guyana’s lavish multi-cultural cuisine and featuring foods from different Caribbean countries. The food festival concludes tomorrow.
While some will be enjoying delectable food on Main Street, partygoers can choose to attend the Soca Off Shore Boat Cruise tonight. The vessel sails from the Transport and Harbours Wharf in Kingston from 8 pm and returns at midnight. There is also a pre-cruise party at the wharf from 6 pm. This event includes performances from songbird Niketa and Jumo ‘Rubber Waist’ Primo and Granny Ivy. There will also be a surprise performance, which the organisers have not disclosed as yet.
Meanwhile, Soca artiste ‘Mr Killa’ will be headlining the ‘Oil It Up’ concert in Linden.
Despite these highly energetic events, the premiere event today is the sold out CPL game between the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) and the Trinidad and Tobago Knight Riders.
Whether the GAW wins or loses, the fun does not stop. On Sunday the line up includes the Linden Regatta and the Soca and Wine event, which generated so much heat in the past that organisers decided to include it.
However, even as these events are taking place, the GAW will be battling with the Barbados Royals for a spot in the playoffs at the Guyana National Stadium.
The activities wind down on Monday with the inaugural Miss Cricket Carnival at the National Cultural Centre and the Carnival Fantasy Pan and Soca Concert on the Kingston Beach.
The latter is dubbed as exciting, giving patrons the opportunity to enjoy soca hits played on pan while relaxing in the ocean breeze from the Atlantic.
