Cane harvesters attached to the Blairmont Estate yesterday discovered a decomposed body floating in a trench at the Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice backdam.
According to information gathered, the body, which is yet to be identified, was found just around 11:00 hrs.
Stabroek News was told that the cane harvesters along with a supervisor ventured to the location to work yesterday when they made the discovery.
The body, which was heavily decomposed, was clad in only a green shirt.
The police were immediately informed and headed to the location. They eventually removed the body, which was taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital to be officially confirmed as dead, police said yesterday.
An autopsy is expected to be done.
