Our human side needs more than rationalism

Dear Editor,

Having served for over 50 years as a teacher/educator in relation to mathematics, I am not surprised when I am asked how could I be or aspire to be a poet. Mathematics has been my area of concentration in the academic area. I enjoyed teaching/ learning mathematics but it could not afford me imaginative pursuits. Poetry answered to my thirst to say what I wanted to say in a special way emotionally. I will not go further and I hope my explanation will lead those who are studying subjects of formulas and theorems and definitions and experiments will understand that our human side needs more than rationalism (reason as the chief source of knowledge and understanding). It needs poetry (which may step beyond the boundary of cold logical reasoning) and broadly a journey into wisely chosen literature. I may be wrong for I am just giving a viewpoint.

Sincerely,

Krishna Nand Prasad
