Errol Latchoo, who was intercepted last Friday at De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara (WCD) with a haversack with bagged cannabis, has been remanded to prison.
The 20-year-old, of Lot 54 West Met-en-Meerzorg, WCD yesterday appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge that was read to him by Magistrate Zameela Ali-Seepaul.
The allegation states that on September 23 at Young and the Restless Street, De Kinderen, Latchoo had 118 grammes of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking in his possession. Bail was denied and the man was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned until November 29.
According to a statement issued by the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), officers conducted an operation at Young and the Restless Street, De Kinderen, where they intercepted Latchoo carrying a haversack. A subsequent search of the said haversack revealed several transparent Ziplock bags containing suspected cannabis.
The man was then arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters, where the narcotics were confirmed as cannabis, it was then weighed and amounted to 118 grammes.
