Although he harbours the intention of returning to the senior men’s programme, Sporting Kansas City (SKC) II midfield lynchpin Curtez Kellman, says that his primary goal is to focus on securing a berth on the first team roster of the Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise.
This was disclosed during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sport. According to Kellman, while he is appreciative of being able to represent the national team, the primary objective at the moment is securing a place in the first team of the MLS franchise.
He explained, “When it comes to the national team, I will always be grateful to represent once called upon. “But as of now, I’m focused more with my club and working towards breaking into the first team and playing in the MLS.”
Kellman, who recently completed his maiden campaign in the MLS Next Pro League, the third tier of US Soccer, has labelled the competition highly competitive given the quality of the players.
He last represented the Golden Jaguars in November 2017.
His side finished ninth in the Western Conference. Kellman, who signed for Sporting Kansas on February 28th, featured in 19 matches with 12 starts in the 24 fixture competition.
He logged an impressive 1075 minutes and completed 90 minutes on seven occasions.
Although the former Georgetown Football Club and Western Tigers player failed to record a goal or assist during the tournament, he connected on 417 from an attempted 483 passes at a conversion rate of 86.3%, alongside 17 tackles.
The former Eastern Florida State and Daytona State college standout stated, “I personally think ever since I’ve joined SKC, the information that I’ve received from the coaches when it comes to my game [has] helped me a lot with my development. So I want to continue to grow and develop more as a player first so I can be a permanent fixture in the National setup in the future.”
