An autopsy has ruled out foul play in the death of 30-year-old Simon Peters, whose lifeless body was discovered in a canal at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara last week.

Reports are that Peters, of Lot 74 Garden of Eden, EBD left home around 16:00 hrs last Thursday with a friend to hunt for birds.

After he did not return, his relatives became worried and went to look for him when they discovered his body.

Peters is believed to have died sometime between 16.30hrs and 18.30hrs.

His body was discovered by his father. There were no visible marks of violence.

While foul play was initially suspected, an autopsy performed on Monday showed that Peters died as a result of bronchoaspiration.

His friend was detained for questioning during the investigation. He reportedly related to the police that while he and Peters left together, they went separate ways.

The friend said he only discovered that Peters did not return home upon visiting his residence later the said afternoon.

Peters body has been handed over to his family for burial.
