Brazilian Dr Barbosa da Silva Jr was on Wednesday elected the new Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
He was elected by PAHO Member States during the 30th Pan American Sanitary Conference.
In a press announcement, PAHO said Dr Barbosa will begin his five-year term on 1 February 2023, succeeding Dr. Carissa F. Etienne of Dominica, who has led PAHO since 2012.
