Express International Inc, a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company, on Friday opened its newest branch at Henrietta Village, in Region Two.
Already the company has hired 13 Essequibians to work at the facility and has promised to employ more persons before year-end.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ken Deocharran said the company was established in 2004 with a single van courier moving small packages. However, due to the success of the business it has evolved from one dispatcher to a workforce of approximately 400 employees locally and abroad.
The local brand is part of the Express Group of Companies, which includes Express Dedicated LLC (US Trucking companies), First Choice Logistics (US Freight Brokerage company), and Integrated Support Services based in Chattanooga, TN.
The company’s local headquarters is located at Hadfield Street, Georgetown.
Guyanese-born Deocharran said that he believes in investing in his employees through training and as such the business earlier pledged a whopping $42 million to enhance the company’s talent and brand.
Delivering the feature address at the opening, the Senior Minister with the responsibility for Finance Dr Ashni Singh used the opportunity to congratulate Express International Inc for investing in Essequibo. Dr Singh said that the Government of Guyana has seen tremendous growth in the BOP sector in Guyana over the years.
“Irrespective of which region you live our commitment as a government is to continue to create the conditions to see new types of jobs established in all the regions in our country. I am very happy that Express International responded to our call and responded to the conditions we have created to establish such a business,” Dr Singh said.
He noted that the Guyanese-owned company has employed over 350 locals, which is the testimony of the growth of the BPO sector.
“We want to see more like this from BPO companies. We are in active engagements and we are encouraging them to have operations outside Georgetown” Dr Singh further explained.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of GO-Invest Dr Peter Ramsaroop said that the conversation with Express International Inc about the new branch started a year ago and he is satisfied to see that the company has delivered.
“It was a goal to ensure that more jobs come to this region, and if you look at the pass rate Essequibo tops the region and if the business is looking for a workplace then Essequibo is the place to be where you have a dedicated workforce,” Ramsaroop said.
Region Two Chairperson Vilma De Silva said that she is very pleased to have Express International Inc in the region and called for more investors to come on board. De Silva pledg-ed that the region would work hand-in-hand with investors like Express International Inc.
