North Ruimveldt handed Christianburg/Wismar their first loss in the third Guyoil/Tradewind Tankers Secondary Schools Football League, prevailing 1-0 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Following a scoreless first-half interval, Jevon Pluck made his presence felt to seal the result compliments of a 62nd-minute strike.
Meanwhile, Golden Grove downed West Ruimveldt 3-1 to climb atop the standings. The trio of Kelvin Kelon Croal, Nathan Daw, and Kelvin Richardson scored in the fourth, 53rd, and 70th minutes apiece. On target in the loss was Donovan Welcome in the 40th minute.
On the other hand, President’s College edged Friendship 3-2 to climb into second place owing to a weaker goal differential. Ronkonkoma Vaughn bagged a double in the 37th and 67th minute, while Wilton Sebastian netted in the 70th minute. For the losers, Kevon Williams, and Rayon Emmanuel scored in the 30th and 35th minute respectively.
Also, Cummings Lodge and Dolphin Secondary battled to a 1-1 draw. The tournament is slated to conclude on November 6. All fixtures will be hosted at the Ministry of Education ground in Thomas Lands, Georgetown.
The winner of the tournament will receive $500,000 for a school project and the championship trophy. The second, third, and fourth place finishers will pocket $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respectively towards an initiative.
On the individual side, awards will also be presented for the Most Valuable Player, Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper. The top two finishers in the event will qualify for the Goodwill International Championship.
