Calwyn Croal, who is accused of shooting a Linden businessman after a misunderstanding between the two, was charged with attempted murder on Thursday.
Croal, 53, of Lot 178 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
According to the Guyana Police Force, it is alleged that Croal attempted to murder Nigel Somersall of Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden on Friday, September 23, 2022. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Bail was subsequently refused and Croal was remanded to prison until October 10 for report on the victim’s condition, since he is still hospitalised.
Police had previously reported that the two men, who are known to each other, had a misunderstanding. Croal then left after the argument ensued and the businessman remained at his shop. About two hours after, Somersall heard several loud explosions, suspected to be gunshots, and upon investigating, he saw the suspect on the street a short distance away armed with a gun, pointing in his direction. Somersall related that he then felt something hit him and he began feeling a burning sensation about his body.
The man was shot once to the abdomen and three times to his right hand. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital.
