A driver of Atlantic Ville on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) has been arrested for possession of narcotics.
According to a release yesterday from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), on Tuesday, its officers conducted an operation at Goedverwagting Public Road, ECD, where they intercepted a motor car, PXX 3869 driven by Roy Thomas, 63, of Lot 188 Atlantic Ville, ECD.
The vehicle was searched in the presence of the driver who was the lone occupant. A further body search was conducted on the driver which led to the discovery of a quantity of suspected cocaine hidden in the crotch of his pants.
Thomas was subsequently arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters along with the suspected cocaine. The narcotics tested positive for cocaine and had a total weight of 16.8 grammes.
CANU says investigations are ongoing.
