A Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) operation has unearthed a quantity of cocaine at Bagotstown and two men have been held.
It has been reported by CANU that on Tuesday, October 04, its officers conducted an operation at Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara where they intercepted a motor car bearing licence plate number HD 1446. A subsequent search of the motor car which was conducted in the presence of the occupants, led to the discovery of two brick-like parcels of suspected cocaine.
As a result, Latchram Parmesh, 34, of Lot 1775 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), and Mohamed Yusuf Persaud, 56, of Lot 1088, Tuschen New Housing Scheme, EBE, were both arrested and escorted to CANU headquarters with the suspected bricks of cocaine. The substance tested positive for cocaine and had a total weight of 2.140 kg, with a street value of approximately $2.1 million.
