Both Afro and Indo Guyanese should work together to realize mutual benefits

Dear Editor,

The PPP/C Government of Guyana is being accused of discrimination in favouring its supporters (mainly Indo Guyanese) again. It is no secret that pre-1992 PNC supporters (mainly Afro Guyanese) went into politics for their betterment favouring the party-card. Indo Guyanese went into economics for their betterment. When Guyana’s economy recovered after PNC devastation Indo Guyanese benefited most because they were in businesses. Afro Guyanese seems to have a fear of being subjugated which some have managed to overcome. Indo Guyanese does not want the PNC to rule over them. I suspect that it has nothing to do with the PNC being Afrocentric but rather because of the devastation caused by the PNC. Somehow, both Afro Guyanese and Indo Guyanese need to move past the past. I remember the past; I don’t live in it. I suggest looking at ways we can work together for mutual benefits.

Sincerely,

Sean Ori
