It was a tough day at the office for Guyana’s badminton players at the ongoing South American Games in Paraguay yesterday.
The three shuttlers, Priyanna Ramdhani, Akili Haynes and Narayan Ramdhani had commendable performances, but were all eliminated from the quadrennial event.
Priyanna, playing her individual female quarterfinal match, was outplayed by Peru’s Fernanda Rivva 21-9, 21-8.
After winning their round of 16 mixed doubles match against their Ecuadorian opponents, 21-13, 21-16, the siblings, Priyanna and Narayan Ramdhani were eliminated by a Brazilian pair, 6-21, 9-21.
Earlier in the day, Haynes and Narayan lost their men’s doubles opening match against their Paraguayan opponents, 20-22, 13-21.
Guyana’s hopes of medaling at the event will now rest on athletes from the disciplines of boxing, squash and table tennis.
Boxing punches off on Saturday and concludes on October 13 while the table tennis and squash players will spring into action from Sunday and Monday respectively.
