Dear Editor,
In the words of President of the United States Biden on Thursday, 6 October 2022, “… no one should be in jail just for using or possessing marijuana.” Those words were part of his statement on the federal overhaul of the US marijuana policy. In the Caribbean, Grenada announced that it would decriminalize marijuana in the next few months.
Every day confused citizens continue to read of the misuse of state and police resources raiding marijuana fields in Berbice and other areas and the jailing of citizens for marijuana offences. It is beyond time for the present incomprehensible approach and policies of the Guyanese government on marijuana to end.
