Archrivals, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will once again clash in a final, this time in the Georgetown Cricket Association New Building Society 40-over second division tournament tonight.
DCC defeated Muslim Youth Organsation (MYO) by 70 runs to book their spot in the finals.
DCC won the toss and opted to bat on home turf where they piled on 309 for eight in their allotted 40-over quota were then contained to 239 all out in 33.4 overs.
Jaden Campbell was trapped leg before wicket to Chien Gittens in the first over but Sachin Singh kept DCC afloat with a 48-ball 44, laced with four sixes and two fours. He was complimented by Shamar Yearwood with 45, Jonathan Van Lange and Joshua Persaud with 36 and 31 respectively. However, it was a belligerent innings by Steven Sankar that pushed DCC over the 300-run mark. Sankar smashed eight sixes and four fours on his way to 72 from 27 balls. Jamall Major was the pick of the MYO bowlers with 3-55.
Sankar returned with ball in hand to grab 4-50 from his eight overs while Carlton Jacques snatched 3-34. Richard Latiff top scored with 59 from 36 balls. His innings was highlighted by seven sixes and three fours while adding 58 for the third wicket with Ershaad Ali (22).
Safraz Esau (35) and Omesh Danram (31) added 61 for the sixth wicket but when both batsmen fell, MYO were still 111 runs away from their target.
Gittens played an inspiring knock of 32 from 26 balls but handed Sankar his fourth wicket. DCC gifted MYO 32 extras.
Meanwhile, GCC defeated Police by 44 runs at MYO. GCC won the toss and elected to bat where they posted 113 all out in 23.5 overs. Police were then bowled out for 69 in 22.2 overs.
Police seamer, Trevor Benn removed openers Deonarine Seegobin and Zachary Jodah cheaply while Kestor Harcourt removed dangerman Mavendra Dindyal for 19 and followed up with the wicket of Timothy McAlmont as GCC slipped to 48 for four by the ninth over.
Joshua Wade top scored with 22 while Bernard Bailey was left on 15 not out. Extras tallied for 25 towards GCC’s total.
Benn brothers, Troy and Trevor picked up four wickets each for 21 and 46 runs respectively while Harcourt grabbed 2-18.
In Police’s chase, Lennox Andrews top scored with 15 while Ameer Mohamed (12) and Trevor Benn (11) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
Left-arm spinner, Devon Lord returned 4-13 including the wickets of Andrews, Dwain Dick and Pernell London in the same over. His fellow left-arm spinner, Stephon Wilson supported with 2-28.
The final will be played today at DCC from 13.30 hours.
