Both the Albion/Port Mourant and Blairmont estates surpassed their weekly production targets for the week ending October 8, 2022 picking up from the Uitvlugt Estate which surpassed its weekly target for the week ending October 1, 2022.
GuySuCo sources said that the Albion/Port Mourant Estate exceeded the weekly target by 8%. Blairmont surpassed its weekly target by 7%. As a result of this achievement, employees who worked 80% or more days available for that week will benefit from an additional tax-free day’s pay.
The Berbice estates commenced the second crop of 2022 on July 30th, 2022 after the abnormal rainy season.
The Corporation introduced an incentive scheme in September 2022 to motivate more workers to return to the Estates for more days but it is too early to properly measure the outcome, sources say.
Sources within the industry stated that the tonnes cane to tonnes sugar ratio (TC/TS) at Albion/Port Mourant is under 11.5, while at Blairmont it was under 13 which reflects a better cane yield and quality of sugar cane entering the factory.
