The Chairman of the Wyburg/ Caracas Neighbourhood Democratic Council who was stung by a swarm of bees while checking on works in the backlands on September 27 succumbed to his injuries on Sunday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Following the attack, Cheemanlall Youardhan, 63, of Lot 3 Caracas Village, West Canje Berbice was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after which he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he died in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
According to his daughter, Marissa Youardhan, her father around 2 pm on the day in question was heading down to the Waterworks Dam to check on works which were being carried out by a bulldozer when he was attacked by a swarm of bees.
Stabroek News was told that the Chairman was eventually able to jump into a nearby trench and was rescued by persons passing by about two hours later.
He was then brought out from the backdam and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where after spending two days he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to the daughter, while the hospital was making preparations to have her father transferred, they were informed that he had developed a breathing issue. “We rushed him to the Georgetown hospital and they put him in the ICU to sleep and dad never wake up back. It was confirmed that 1000 bees bite him”, the emotional daughter noted.
On Saturday last, Harrinarine Ramdas, 47, of Lot 78 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was stung by a swarm of bees while he was in his backyard. He is presently hospitalized at the Skeldon Public Hospital. On Saturday, Keerat Kassim, 38, a cash crop farmer of Crabwood Creek and his 60-year-old father were stung by a swarm of bees while on their farm in the area.
The two are said to be in stable condition following the attack.
