Guyana’s participation in boxing at the ongoing South American Games in Paraguay ended last evening after Desmond Amsterdam and Keevin Allicock lost their respective semi-final bouts.
Amsterdam unanimously lost his 80kg bout against Argentina’s Benjamin Grimaux 0-5 on the scorecards.
While Amsterdam lost in the ring, Allicock disappointingly lost his 57kg bout on the scales without throwing a punch.
Guyana’s other representative in the discipline, Colin Lewis, lost his quarterfinal bout on Sunday 2-3 against Peru’s Leodan Savoy.
Guyana has so far won two bronze medals at the quadrennial event. The nation’s representatives in table tennis and squash will look to up the medal tally in the coming days.
