The driver of the bus which crashed into a parked truck along the Corentyne highway earlier this week killing him and his passenger has since been identified as a 19-year-old Black Bush Polder (BBP) resident.
The driver was identified as Vishnu Parsaram of Lot 14 C – Z Zone, BBP by his mother, Stabroek News was told.
During the wee hours of Monday, Parsaram was driving bus, BFF 7369 with the owner, Yusuf Ali as the passenger heading to BBP when he slammed into a motor truck, GNN 8333 which was parked along the Kiltairn Village, Corentyne Public Road.
The two sustained injuries and were taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Commander of Region Six, Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus yesterday noted that given Parsaram’s age he was not the holder of a licence for a motor bus.
Residents within the area had relayed that the accident happened just around 1 am.
Ali, 54, of Johanna South, BBP was identified by his father immediately after the crash.
Ali’s father, Nadir Ali, had stated that he received the news just around 1.30 am on the day in question. He had said that he immediately left BBP and rushed to the location of the crash where he was told that his son was sleeping in the passenger seat at the time of the accident.
According to the man, he was told that his son, who owns and operates the bus, was sleeping inside the bus which was parked several villages away from where the crash occurred, when the teenager decided to drive them home.
“Like he take the keys from my son pocket and he decide that he go drive come in because them boys tell me how me son been a sleep in the bus”, the father said.
