An upbeat Essequibo team fresh from last Sunday’s massive win over Demerara, will oppose a strong Berbice side when the two teams meet in today’s final of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Male Super 50 Inter-County Tournament.
According to a release from the GCB, the highly anticipated clash will witness the two teams vying for championship honors and the competition has returned to the GCB’s calendar of matches after an absence of more than five years.
“It has created a great hype and interest among cricket enthusiasts, evident from the thousands of spectators who witnessed the previous round of matches,” the GCB release stated.
The tournament involves the competitive participation of a number of local players with regional and international experience who are seeking to improve their chances of selection to this year’s Guyana Harpy Eagles Super 50 touring squad which is set to depart Guyana on October 27 to compete in this year’s CG United Super 50 Tournament.
Today’s Day/Night final is scheduled to commence at 1400 hours at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence and will be Livestreamed in the Indian subcontinent comprising India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan, the Maldives and Afghanistan through a partnership agreement with a promotion firm registered in India, the release stated.
“This partnership arrangement is now in the testing stage of Guyana’s cricket product,” says President of the GCB, Bissoondyal Singh, adding that the GCB is moving ahead smoothly with the development and promotion of the game. To date, the GCB has livestreamed all matches in this tournament and engaged a potential commercial partner to assist in the promotion of the game beyond the boundaries of Guyana and the West Indian region.
