The five men who are accused of murdering the Number 70 Village, Corentyne carpenter, Faiyaz Narinedatt back in 2016, pleaded not guilty causing a trial to commence in the High Court in Berbice this week.
On Tuesday, a 12-member jury was empanelled at the High Court before Justice Navindra Singh to commence hearing evidence in the case.
The five accused are Orlando Dickie, Radesh Motie, Diodath Datt, Harri Paul Parsram and Niran Yacoob. The state is being represented by attorneys at law, (special prosecutor) Latchmie Rahamat and (state prosecutor) Nafeeza Baig.
Attorney at Law, Mursaline Bacchus is representing Dickie, Motie and Datt, while Attorney at Law, Arud Gossai is representing Parsram and Yacoob.
The trial commenced on Wednesday with the first witness taking the stand to share what he claimed to have heard transpired at the party which led to Narinedatt’s murder.
On Thursday, ASP Nedd testified to processing the vehicle and crime scene.
Narinedatt was found lying lifeless on the Number 70 Village public road, Corentyne on November 1, 2016. with marks of violence on his body.
Investigators were initially treating the matter as a hit-and-run. However, relatives of Narinedatt pleaded with the police to further investigate the incident as they believed he was murdered, based on information provided to them.
A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from a fractured skull but had also sustained a fractured spine and other injuries.
